Frequently Asked Questions
General Questions
What ages do you support?
I support families with babies and toddlers from as little as 3 weeks old, right through to the toddler years. If your little one falls just outside that range, feel free to reach out—we might still be a good fit.
Do you sleep train newborns?
No—newborns are not sleep trained. Instead, I offer gentle support to help set up healthy sleep foundations during this early stage. Their sleep biorhythms are still developing, so we focus on things like sleep environment, awake windows, feeds, growth, and settling strategies to support better sleep without pressure or strict routines.
Should I work on my newborn’s sleep or try to establish a routine?
There are definitely benefits to establishing a gentle routine early on—but it’s also totally okay if that’s not your priority right now. If you’re enjoying a more flexible, go-with-the-flow approach (brunches and all), that’s perfectly valid.
"If it aint broke, don’t fix it."
Many parents choose to wait to see if sleep becomes a challenge, and that’s fine too. There’s no one-size-fits-all approach to parenting or sleep.
Do I need to stop breastfeeding or feeding to sleep?
No, absolutely not. Breastfeeding has many sleep benefits to both Mum & baby—including the release of sleepy hormones like melatonin and oxytocin. These hormones naturally help you both wind down and fall asleep more easily. Feeding to sleep, especially in the early months, is completely normal and often very effective.
"If it ain’t broke, don’t fix it."
That said, if feeding to sleep starts leading to sleep challenges (like frequent wake-ups or difficulty resettling), we can gently work on a plan to support better sleep—without needing to stop breastfeeding, if that’s not your goal.
As with everything I do, sleep support is highly personalised. We'll work together in a way that feels right for your baby, your body, and your parenting style. Not sure if feeding to sleep is working for you or if it’s something to change? You’re always welcome to book a free, no-obligation 15-minute phone call to chat through your sleep goals.
Do I need to stop co-sleeping to work on sleep?
In a nutshell—no. I’ll work with your goals and values, whether that includes co-sleeping, contact naps, or something else entirely. Sleep support is about improving sleep in a way that suits your family—not forcing a specific routine.
That said, due to insurance requirements, my advice must be based on the AAP’s safe sleep guidelines, which recommend that your child sleeps in their own safe sleep space. If and when you do choose to co-sleep, Red Nose has a fantastic resource on how to do it as safely as possible.
During our support period, we can take a gradual approach if you're wanting to move away from co-sleeping. For example, we might start with resettling your baby into their cot after the first night wake, and build from there. Or we could focus only on naps in the cot, if nights are working well for you.
Whatever your goals are, I’ll help set realistic expectations and achievable steps so you feel supported the whole way through. Not sure what direction to take? You’re always welcome to book a free, no-obligation 15-minute phone call to chat through your sleep goals.
What sleep methods do you use?
I’m trained in a wide range of evidence-based sleep methods—from gentle to more structured approaches. There’s no one-size-fits-all approach. I suggest strategies based on your child’s age, temperament, and your parenting style. Together, we’ll choose a method that feels right and realistic for your family.
Different strategies suit different temperaments, parenting styles, and sleep challenges. We can also tweak the approach based on how your child responds and how you're feeling as a parent. That’s exactly why the support period is so important—and why I don’t offer “plan-only” packages. I’m here to help you see real progress.
Consistency is key—both short and long term. The approach needs to work for your child and feel comfortable for you. If it doesn’t, it often won’t stick—and can leave you feeling even more stuck. Sleep support should feel empowering, not overwhelming—and I’ll be there every step of the way to guide, adjust, and support you.
Do you offer in-home visits?
Not at this stage. All sleep support is offered remotely—via phone, email, and shared sleep logs—so you can access support from wherever you are.
What’s included in a sleep support package?
All of my one-on-one support packages—Rest & Reset, Sleep Success, and Toddler Sleep Solutions—include a personalised plan and expert guidance tailored to your child and your family’s goals.
Here’s what’s included in every support period:
-
Health & sleep readiness check
We start by identifying anything that might be affecting sleep—big or small. This could include red flags for bigger concerns like obstructive sleep apnoea, or smaller but still significant issues like reflux, eczema, or constipation. I’ll provide evidence-based education and resources to help manage these concerns, and if needed, I’ll let you know if a GP or specialist review is recommended.
This is all about making sure your little one is set up for success in every way before we even begin.
-
Detailed intake form
This covers everything I need to get a full picture of your child’s sleep & your family dynamic.
It covers things like:-
Your child’s routine, feeding, settling, temperament, and sleep environment
-
Your parenting style, values, and goals
-
Any other considerations such as siblings, family schedule, and other commitments that may impact your day-to-day routine
-
-
Personalised sleep plan
Your sleep plan is created based on the details shared in your intake form. You’ll receive the full plan upfront, and we’ll schedule a call to talk through it together. This is when you’ll choose your settling technique, ask any questions, and make sure the plan feels realistic and right for your family.
We can tweak anything that doesn’t sit quite right—so that everyone’s on the same page and confident before you begin.
-
Support period (1 or 2 weeks)
This is where the magic happens! During your support period, we stay in close contact through a shared sleep log that we can both view and edit in real time. You’re welcome to give access to anyone else who’s caring for your child during this time too. You can pop your questions into the log as you go, and I’ll respond there—so nothing gets missed.
I’ll track your child’s progress closely and adjust the plan as needed. We’ll also connect via phone and/or email for support, troubleshooting, or just a bit of reassurance when you need it.
My goal is to make sure you feel confident, supported, and never alone throughout the process—while also empowering you with the confidence to continue independently.
-
End-of-support planning
Before your support period ends, we’ll talk through what’s next—like nap transitions, dropping night feeds, or any upcoming milestones—so you feel prepared for what’s ahead.
You’ll receive this as a summary email, so it’s easy to refer back to in the coming weeks or months.
I’ll always make sure you have the information and guidance you need to continue independently—but if you’re not quite ready to go it alone yet, that’s totally okay. You can book another week of support, or choose a follow-up call if and when needed. Whatever feels right for you.
Every step is personalised, flexible, and designed to help you build confidence in your child’s sleep—with realistic expectations and ongoing reassurance.
